Fran McGillivray Band
Fran McGillivray ( vocals, bass guitar & flute) and Mike Burke ( acoustic, electric & resonator guitars, mandola, mandolin & vocals), and Roger Nunn ( drums, percussion & vocals) are an exciting and compelling trio with a strong following on the blues and roots music scene . Founder members of the legendary urban blues outfit So Long Angel, Fran and Mike have spent many years honing their craft and have developed a unique take on roots music and an amazing empathy on stage. Early live appearances included playing in the backing bands for touring US artists Inez Foxx and JJ Barnes, where they learned a great deal about stagecraft and professionalism. Since then they have performed at many major festivals in Europe and the UK including Rotterdam, Cambridge, and Shrewsbury. They have shared the bill with iconic guitarists Bert Jansch, John Renbourne and Davy Graham as well as major artists such as Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello. Recent collaborations include the Spikedrivers Blues Roots Revue Tour and a series of shows with Brooks Williams, PJ Wright and Pete Smith under the banner “Guitar Massive”.
Roger Nunn spent five years drumming with So Long Angel and now brings his passion and skills as both player and sound engineer to the trio. Roger is a great student of percussion from around the world; he studied djembe in South Africa and features this drum extensively in live shows and on recordings alongside kit drums and a variety of percussion instruments.
The band are regulars on the club and concert circuit, and on BBC and local music radio shows. Fran, Mike and Roger have recorded three albums together, and the latest is entitled “Some Luck”. Fran and Mike’s own vibrant and original songs are complemented by soulful, dynamic and powerful interpretations of songs from a broad range of genres from Americana through to Country and Blues.
